Millions of people around the country rely on email every day as their preferred business communication tool and this isn’t about to change any time soon.
In fact, it’s going to grow. By 2018 the Radicati group estimate that worldwide there will be 124.5 billion emails sent/received each day, an increase
of 3.9 billon from 2017’s estimate. This means that there is a massive opportunity for hackers and we all know that a hacker’s favourite network
infiltration method is email.
Whether the threat is a good old-fashioned Phishing scam or something more sophisticated like a ‘trusted user’ email hijack attempt, they are there
and they need to be taken seriously.
At the same time businesses are moving across to Office365 in their droves (around 1.2 billion users to be precise!) and many people will agree that
whilst Microsoft have done a good job and included some Security features in Exchange Online these features are only basic.
Having a strong Endpoint Security product will help protect the network to some extent, however when you consider how many threats come in via email,
increasing Office365 mailbox security should be high on the list of priorities.
Some Malware, like Ransomware will execute immediately, however many samples will lay dormant silently collecting information and waiting for the optimum
time to deliver its payload. The average time a threat lays dormant before executing is 200 days therefore many organisations will have been infiltrated
but be blissfully unaware.
To prove this point, our good friends at Barracuda have launched a FREE email threat scanning tool which will scan Office365 mailboxes
and uncover dormant threats.
